Welcome to the inaugural round of Doodle for Doodle! Nominations are now open! The tagset can be viewed here and you can submit your nominations here.

Please read the nomination rules below before you nominate!

Eligible Fandoms

  • All fictional work fandoms, characters, and ships are eligible for this exchange.
  • Settings and objects from your fandoms are eligible.
  • Recursive nominations are eligible. See the FAQ for more information!
  • Specific or Pre-existing OCs can be nominated under the fandom "Recipient's OCs for Doodles". See more here.
  • Original Work and Creator's Choice of Doodle are eligible for the exchange.
  • RPF of famous people over the age of 18 are eligible for this exchange. There are some restrictions on RPF nominations. See Other Considerations in the rules for these restrictions.

Nominations Rundown

  • Each participant can nominate up to 10 fandoms, with up to 20 characters/ships in each fandom.
  • Nominations will be done in the character field.
  • You will be required to use a Group: prefix for any / or & relationships that involve more than one character
  • Settings or objects should use the Setting: or Object: prefix. If there is a canonical character tag for a setting or object, you may use that instead.
  • You may nominate Creator's Choice tags using the fandom Creator's Choice of Doodle, or under a specific fandom.
  • All nominations should be disambiguated.
  • See the nominations section of the rules for specific guidance on how to format nominations for Original Work, Crossovers, Recipient's OCs for Doodles, and more.
  • If you think there may be confusion about a tag you're planning to nominate, feel free to ask or give a heads up about it first. This lessens the chance of your nomination getting held up for a clarification post, or potentially rejected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to use a Group: prefix for my relationship nominations?

Short explanation: because we are nominating into the character slot, all relationship nominations (e.g. any tag that involves more than one character) needs to use a Group: prefix.

Long explanation: Due to how ao3 tags work, the first time a tag is nominated into a field, that tag "belongs" to that field. Any future nominations in a different field will append a suffix onto the tag. Since we're trying not to make any problems for people who will use relationship tags in the future, we need to be sure that all relationship nominations have a Group: prefix on them!

If you nominate a relationship tag without a Group: prefix, tagmods will edit them into your tags.

What is a disambiguation, and why should I do it?

A disambiguation is the parenthetical note at the end of a nomination. For a character nomination Big Bird (Sesame Street), the fandom name in parenthesis, (Sesame Street), is the disambiguation. Disambiguations are incredibly important to include. They help the tagmods keep the tagset in order. Tags wander from their fandoms, fall out of association, and sometimes prevent other people from nominating a character with the same name under a different fandom!

Adding disambiguations makes the nomination & tag association process extremely fast! I can process tags quickly if I know where they're supposed to go.

If you nominate without disambiguations, they will be edited into your nominated tags.

Help! I need more nomination slots!

If 10 fandoms & 20 character slots per fandom isn't enough for your planned nominations, consider nominating with a second/sock account, or trading nomination slots with other users who haven't used all of theirs! There is a channel for this exchange on the BFE art discord, and you can trade nom slots with other participants there if you need them.

In some cases, I may add nominations for you directly into the tagset through the mod interface (e.g. if a nomination had to be rejected or deleted for reasons beyond your control, or you need an OW tag with a different gender combination than what is already in the tagset). Please contact me through email or the mod screened post if you need a nomination added!

I'd like to receive a doodle for one of the works I have posted on AO3. How do I nominate that?

You can nominate "Creator's Choice of Doodle from a fic I wrote (CCoD)" or "Creator's Choice of Doodle from art I made (CCoD)" or other tags similar to these! You can nominate it in the Creator's Choice of Doodle fandom if you'd like it for anything that you've made, or in a specific fandom if you'd prefer it from a single fandom only.

If you'd like to receive doodles for only a specific work, you can nominate it as a recursive fandom.

I'd like to nominate a recursive fandom. Are there any extra steps?

You can nominate a recursive fandom like you would any other fandom. However, there are some extra considerations for nomination.

  • Nominate it directly into the tagset. If the work that you are trying to nominate has a blanket permission statement for art on the creator's profile, is an orphaned work, or already has an existing recursive fandom, please nominate it directly into the tagset! I will check the fandoms as I approve nominations.
  • Leave a comment for me here. If the blanket permission statement is not on the creator's profile, or there is a somewhat complex permission situation (e.g. multiple creators), please leave a comment for me on this post. Tell me the work's name, and link to where the creator(s) has left a permission statement.
  • What kind of permission statement does a work need to qualify for this exchange? A complete permission statement is one that allows anyone to make art for their work without restriction (including restrictions like "you need to contact me first" or "you need to contact me if you change the ships" or "you can only make art if the rating is G or T-rated" etc.) Because of the nature of an exchange, not everyone who requests, offers, or makes art for a recursive work will see a permission statement with restrictions.
  • If a permission statement doesn't meet the criteria for this exchange, the nomination will be rejected and I will make a note of that on the next Nomination Query post.

  • Please comment here, on the screened mod contact post or email the mod account if there are any questions or concerns about your nominations!
